Sciatic Pain Treatment At Premier Pain Management Include
The Sciatic Nerve
-
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. It begins in the lower back and runs through the buttock and down through the leg. Sciatic pain refers to pain running down this pathway. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body but can cause pain in both legs. Sciatic pain can make it hard to walk and perform normal daily functions. Some severe cases can even interfere with bladder control.
Sciatic nerve pain generally indicates there is an underlying problem, such as a herniated disc. Sciatica isn’t actually a condition, but rather a term used to describe symptoms that are triggered by compression of the sciatic nerve. If not properly treated sciatic pain can truly hinder your ability to enjoy life.

Causes of Sciatic Pain
- Degenerative Disc Disease – Natural aging and breakdown of the spinal discs. The discs can lose their cushioning and result in less cushion protecting the sciatic nerve.
- Herniated and Bulging Discs – Discs which act as cushion support between the vertebrae of the back can “slip” position or even burst causing herniation. These discs then press out of the vertebrae and apply pressure on the sciatic nerve causing pain.
- Obesity – Excess weight on the body can cause improper movement patterns, and extra stress on the lower back resulting in lower back pain.
- Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction– Irritation of the sacroiliac joint – located at the bottom of the spine causing sciatica-type pain.
- Spinal Stenosis – Pain in the sciatic may come from the narrowing of the space around the spinal cord. This presses on the sciatic nerve resulting in pain.
- Pregnancy -The changes in the body including weight gain, hormonal changes and the shift in ones center of gravity can cause sciatic pain.
